Creative Director & Designer  :  Furneaux Stewart Ltd

In collaboration with South African architects GAPP, Furneaux Stewart won an international design competition to create a unique visitor attraction at the centre of the Cradle of Humankind UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The experiential subterranean visitor journey travels back in time through the origins of elemental life on earth, and subsequently, to the discovery of our earliest hominid ancestors and what it means to be human today, and tomorrow.
This project holds a special place in my heart from the moment we discovered the competition submission date was a month earlier than we initially thought, to the moment standing in the middle of the unbroken ground of African bush where the building would eventually be built. It was an extraordinary journey with highs and lows but had an almost spiritual quality that bonded the exceptional team that nurtured it through to completion.
